About The Tromsø Hostel

The Tromsø Hostel is a family-run hostel in the heart of Tromsø, founded in 2015 by Robin Hornslien and Naoko Sakamoto. You may know us as Tromso Activities Hostel — same warm welcome and same home above the Arctic Circle, now with a fresh new name.

We’re housed in traditional Norwegian wooden buildings painted in the colours of the Arctic sky — one in the greens of the northern lights, the other in the glow of the midnight sun. Inside you’ll find a relaxed, social atmosphere, a shared kitchen and a cosy lounge where travellers from all over the world swap stories and plan their next adventure. A friendly four-legged host is usually around to say hello.

Where to find us

We’re right in the city centre at Storgata 107, a short walk from Tromsø’s harbour, old town, restaurants and sights such as Polaria and the Hurtigruten ferry terminal. The airport bus stops nearby, so we’re easy to reach whether you arrive by plane, bus or boat.

What we offer

  • Shared self-catering kitchen
  • Cosy shared lounge
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout
  • Luggage storage
  • Laundry facilities
  • Friendly local staff and no curfew

Adventure on your doorstep

Tromsø is one of the best places on earth to chase the northern lights, and adventure is part of who we are. In winter we can help you book aurora-chasing tours; in summer there are fjord trips, hikes and the endless light of the midnight sun. Just ask at reception — we love sharing our corner of the Arctic.
